2023 Participants
The UNM/PED Research Opportunities for Science Educators (ROSE) Program held its third annual summer program for high school science teachers from Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 30, 2023.
Twenty-two ROSE Scholars from across the state of New Mexico participated in a 4-week immersive research program on the UNM Albuquerque campus, hosted by principal investigators from six Departments:

- Chemical and Biological Engineering
- Biology
- Earth & Planetary Sciences
- College of Pharmacy−Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Physics and Astronomy
as well as affiliations with the following campus interdisciplinary Centers and Programs:
- Center for Biomedical Engineering
- Center for Theoretical and Evolutionary Immunology
- UNM Health Sciences Center
- Center for Native Environmental Health Equity Research
- Center for Microengineered Materials
- Center for Advancement of Spatial Informatics Research and Education
- Sevilleta Long-Term Ecological Research Program
- Center for Advanced Research Computing
- Center for Quantum Information and Control
The Program is co-organized by the following UNM faculty members: Profs. Steve Cabaniss, Jeff Rack, Susan Atlas, Sherman Garver, and Cari Hushman; with financial and administrative support from the NM Public Education Department; State of New Mexico Higher Education Department Research and Public Service Projects (RPSP); Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology (Prof. Jeremy Edwards, Chair); UNM Interdisciplinary Science Cooperative; UNM Office of the Provost and EVP for Academic Affairs; UNM Office of the Vice President for Research; UNM College of Arts and Sciences; and NM Science Teachers Association.
As with last year's program, the Summer 2023 ROSE Program enabled teachers to refresh their knowledge and develop new skills, while gaining a better understanding of, appreciation for, and inspiration from current scientific research, and establish authentic relationships between UNM faculty and science educators in local and regional communities, including inspiring high school students to apply to UNM for undergraduate studies.
