Frequently Asked Questions-Housing

Do I have to share a room with another scholar?

You get your own room with either a single or double loft bed. The beds are adjustable.

Are towels and sheets provided?

Yes, but you will need to bring your own pillows and blankets.

Are the bathrooms private or shared?

You will share a bathroom with up to 3 other scholars. It is recommended to bring a shower caddy with your toiletries to travel with you to and from the bathroom.

Are there laundry facilities available?

Located in the basement are 4 washers and 4 dryers to use free of charge. Please promptly remove your laundry when finished. You will need to provide your own laundry detergent/basket.

Is there a kitchen available to cook meals and store food?

Located in the basement is a community kitchen complete with a community refrigerator to store items. It is suggested to label your items in the refrigerator. It is also suggested to bring your own cooking utensils, dish soap and kitchen towels.

Are there community spaces?

There are two community spaces, one on the 2nd floor and one in the basement.

Can I request to have a room on a certain floor or next door to another scholar?

Yes. Please email the project coordinator, Sarah Rascon, sdixon3@unm.edu  as soon as you know what accommodations you might need. It is easier to plan for room accommodations earlier rather than the day of move in. We will do our best to work with your requests.

Will the dorm only have people staying from the ROSE program?

The dorm might have other groups staying depending on housing needs.

Can I bring my own mini refrigerator and/or microwave to keep in my room?

Yes. Keep in mind there are 3 floors in the Laguna/Devargas dorms, so if you bring mini fridges and microwaves you might have to haul them upstairs (there are no elevators).

Do the rooms have air conditioning?

There is central air conditioning. Some of the rooms are cooler than others depending on the direction the room faces and the floor the room is located. If you feel your room is not getting adequate air or the air conditioning is not working, please put in a work order with the housing department. TMA iServiceDesk - University of New Mexico (unm.edu) Some scholars like to bring a floor fan for extra air flow.

What do I do If I have a maintenance or cleanliness issue?

In order to request assistance with a maintenance or cleanliness issue, please do one of the following:

  • Submit a work order request online at TMA iServiceDesk - University of New Mexico (unm.edu). Please provide as much detailed information as possible in the request form.

  • Call 505-277-3575. Plan to provide the staff with as much detailed information as possible, i.e. nature of the problem, location, etc.

  • If you have an emergency, and it is after 4:30pm on a weekday or if it is a weekend or holiday, call the SRC Commons 24-hour Desk at 505-277-2606 and SRC Desk Staff will contact an on-call Custodian or Facilities Services Tech.

If you want to learn the status of your work order, please check on line, email hops@unm.edu or call 505-277-3575.

What do I do if I lose or break the key to my room?

Lost or broken keys should be reported to your residence hall front desk. You will be issued a temporary key until a new key has been ordered. Residents are charged a fee for lock changes due to lost keys or replacement cost for broken keys.
